Approved by Tianjin Science and Technology Commission in May 2015, Tianjin Ecological Engineering Center for Urban Renewal (TEECUR), based at Tianjin University, was founded by Tianjin University College of Architecture, Tianjin University Research Institute of Architectural Design & Urban Planning, Tianjin Research Institute of Building Science Co, Ltd. and Agency C & P Architecture. It is the first provincial technology research and development center with focus on urban renewal, and it is also the main technical support unit of Tianjin’s research on urban renewal.

With Tianjin University’s academic advantages and other council members’ competitive advantages, the center builds tight cooperation between government, universities, research institutes, design firms, construction companies and communities. The center organizes and integrates advanced technologies and products for the transformation and promotion of the scientific and technological achievements. The center serves as an innovation hub focusing on technology research, personnel training, academic communication, strategic consulting and enterprise promotion for sustainable urban renewal.

The center’s business includes technology research and achievement promotion in the field urban planning, landscape architecture and architecture. Its main task is to undertake key research projects of ecological planning, green building, and sustainable materials in Tianjin and nationally. The center expects to set the standards for urban renewal and promote scientific and technological achievements through demonstration projects. Currently, as the principle investigator or co-principle investigator, the center is engaging in 10 National Science Funding and National Social Science Funding research investigations, 6 Tianjin enterprise standard constitutions, and several achievement practical demonstrations.

The center is managed by the director under the council’s administration. The center is inspected by the council committee and the technical committee. The council committee is responsible for the center’s long-term development strategies and administrations, and the technical committee is responsible for the center’s development plan, research strategy, market promotion and daily work. The center consists of the department of research, the department of development, the department of communication, the administration office and the financial office. The center has a group of distinguished researchers with doctoral degree or studying abroad experience, and invites a group of top experts and scholars with long experience in research and practice in the field of urban renewal as technical advisors. Through our efforts, the center makes significant contribution to the development of urban renewal ecological engineering approaches and the construction of sustainable cities in Tianjin and nationally.
